Enterijer BMP59
Apartment BMP 59 is located in a building designed by architects Bogdan Ignjatović, Leonid Lenarčič, Milosav Miša Mitić, Ivan Petrović, Ivan Simović, and Mihailo Čanak, and represents one of the most significant achievements of Serbian modern architecture. The project is deeply rooted in the historical and architectural context, developing the theme of the meander characteristic of the urban structure of Block 21.
The skeletal structural system, with a grid of 4.2 x 4.2 meters, allows for flexible spatial organization and open transformation in accordance with contemporary societal needs. The concept of spatial continuity and openness is articulated through a sequence connecting the entrance hallway, living room, and kitchen, with access to the sleeping block and sanitary units branching from the central axis.
Material choices emphasize this spatial logic: the central axis — from the entrance to the living area — is clad in walnut veneer MDF panels, subtly delineating the transition between public and private zones while creating a tactile and visual continuity.
Spatial openness is further enhanced by the removal of parapet walls in the living and master bedroom areas, opening the apartment toward the terrace that runs along its entire length. This intervention created new sightlines toward the surrounding greenery without altering the original façade of the building.
Through a carefully executed adaptation that balances warm tones, clear geometric lines, and contemporary functional needs, an elegant living environment was created — one that reinterprets modernist principles as timeless architectural values. The goal of this intervention was not merely to respond to a design brief or showcase the value of a new intervention, but above all to reaffirm the enduring quality of architectural tradition, whose capacity for spatial transformation continues to resist obsolescence.
